Oveja

Elígeme a mí, amado mío,

rasga mis vestidos lácteos

haz de mi cuerpo perverso

la lumbre

del camino postrero

bésame con el sueño que no acaba

úngeme con el silencio virginal

del delito.

Aunque no merezca de vos

ya más nada.

Lamb

Choose me, my beloved,

tear my milky clothes

make my perverse body

the fire

of the last road

kiss me with the dream that does not end

anoint me with the virginal silence

of crime.

Even if I don’t deserve from you

anything more.

Tell us more about yourself and your poetry.

I love nostalgia, though my relationship with it is deeply conflicted. There is an inevitable tension between what is gone and what lingers; we are tied to each other. From that conflict, my name was also born, as a reminder that beyond the past, I must learn to inhabit the present, and out of anxiety, to intuit what is to come.

In Honduras, when time is running away from us, we tend to say with urgency, "It's already three in the afternoon". That everyday expression contains a rush that also seeps into my writing. My name is legally Jasson, but I grew up amidst multiple attempts to pronounce my name, and Yasón was one of them. It is one of many names others gave me without knowing that, as I grew up, I would choose to have many more names. Today I am Jasson, I am Yasón, I am Erático.

And that multiplicity is the heart of my poetry: a meeting place between my different selves - my religious self, my queer self, my academic self. Poetry is where all these voices intersect, confront and recognise each other. It is my catharsis, my way of reconciling with every part of myself and the time passing through me.
