Last year, the focus of A House of Our Own shifted as I expanded my conversations with Latinx authors to include discussions about their writing journey and editorial experiences, in addition to the themes and literary elements of their debut books.
This year, I am excited to delve further into writers’ editorial processes by changing the scope and structure of the column. This season of A House of Our Own will focus on poetry, namely the first and final drafts of poems. Every month, I will be talking with emerging poets (poets who have published one book or fewer) about the decisions they made as they drafted, revised, and finalized their poems. These conversations will reveal the uniqueness and diversity of approaches to editing, giving you all a behind-the-scenes look at how poets write.
Thanks to all of you for continuing to read and engage with A House of Our Own, and I’m excited for a new season of conversation.
